  • I have, and enjoy, Raising Baby Green. It’s full of great advice on how to feed, clothe, and care for your baby without dousing them in chemicals and filling up landfills. I’m a tree-hugger; i care about the environment and about what goes into my son’s body. While Raising Baby Green has suggestions to avoid processed food and shop organic whenever possible, the book has sufficient scope that diet itself couldn’t get much space.

Thus, i had high hopes for Feeding Baby Green.

    I am sorely disappointed.

I’ll confess, yes, the book does have lots of good advice, suggestions on what to feed your baby and when, encouragement to feed your baby flavorful, seasoned food instead of bland mush. This book definitely has some value, and that’s why it gets three stars.

Would i recommend it to anyone i know who’s expecting a baby? No. Because it’s like so many other baby books out there: it has a plan, a semi-rigorous routine for how to optimally feed your baby, and veiled threats for if you don’t obey. If you follow Dr. Greene’s plan, your baby will have such eclectic taste that chefs will pour forth from their kitchens to compliment their adventuresome palette. If you don’t, your baby will grow up to be obese, hypertensive, asthmatic, and otherwise substandard, eating only white bread and processed food.

More recipes and less preaching could go a long way.

  • Let me explain. I don’t buy into the manmade global warming business. I believe if you want to be green, learn how to save some energy, plant your own garden and shop locally. That being said, I find this book fascinating because I think it’s a bunch of BS that kids are finicky. My parents were pretty strict with my sister and I when we we toddlers; too bad they weren’t later on. Had they been, my eating styles would have been different.

What I found valuable is the recipes and the natural recipes. Start your children early so they become accustomed to the healthful foods, which will hopefully set them up as healthy adults. While I have no scientific research under my belt, I am convinced that the overprocessed, high sugar, high salt, etc. foods have made us sick. We already know about the obesity issue, but I’m convinced there are fertility issues that came from this.

My wife and I plan to use this as a guide for feeding our baby and the one we are expecting.

  • Being currently preggers myself, I’m all about getting educated for growing a healthy baby both inside the womb and once he enters the world.

Of all the things I enjoy about this book, I like its arrangement the best. With the regular insertion of recipes, stories, tips, reports and more, this book lends to an ease of reading that’s both episodic (which is often the life of a pregnant and new mother) as well as providing more in-depth information.

I’m fairly well read and abreast on current pregnancy, infant and child nutrition trends (as well as the more traditional approaches) and I have to say that Dr. Greene does an excellent job of bringing in a broad range of information that is both accurate and helpful.

His personal story also goes far in establishing a friendly credibility from him toward the reader.

His approach to sharing information and encouraging parents is valuable in that it’s VERY mindful of appropriate (and realistic) issues that parents will face during different developmental stages of their child’s early life.

Overall, a highly recommended reference reading that will be helpful from before you get pregnant, right trough the toddler years.

  • This book has a lot of helpful information that all mothers, and fathers, and anybody should read! There are so many chemicals in our foods these days, and so much junk, it’s so important for everyone to eat healthier. This book explains how to start that in your children starting from when they are in the womb.

  • I ordered this book because I really enjoyed reading Raising Baby Green. Feeding Baby Green actually covers a lot of the same information covered in Raising Baby Green, but goes into a bit more detail. I pretty much skipped the whole first section on what to eat during pregnancy, since Raising Baby Green already covered the topic.

Overall, the book is practical and useful. I especially liked that Dr. Greene covered formula/bottle feeding. I had not expected to need that section, but after having had serious problems while breastfeeding my son, I was thankful that he gave suggestions for keeping bottle feeding as “green” as possible. However, I think he also covered that topic in Raising Baby Green, as well.

In short, I did like this book, and I found it to be helpful. If I had to do it over again, though, I would check out Feeding Baby Green from the library and buy Raising Baby Green, instead of the other way around.
